The Imperial Government

The Empire of Chi'in possesses a complex system of aristocracy and bureaucracy. At the apex of the pyramid stands the Emperor, sole ruler and possessing the Mandate of Heaven. Beneath him a multitude of officials and court functionaries operate the administrative machinery of the state. These are grouped in six main departments.

The Honourable Companions of the Imperial Treasurer are those closest to the Emperor, who have risen to their position by currying favour with His August Majesty.

The Exalted Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Imperial Bureaucracy are the men and women tasked with ensuring the smooth running of the Empire. They tax the peasants, build the roads, feed the armies, and uphold the law.

The Most Auspicious Office of the Attendants of Jade, the Imperial Priesthood, and the Ministry of Rites are those who concern themselves with matters of faith in the Empire, from village priests all the way up to the High Speaker himself.

The Righteous Guild of Weavers, Dyers, and Merchants represents the financial interests of the Empire's trading caste. It ensures the smooth flow of goods to and from the Empire and the exploitation of resources both at home and abroad.

The Ministry for the Preservation, Dissemination, and Protection of Imperial Culture is dedicated to the preservation of the Empire, whether it is from dangerous ideas or from the Imperial Subjects themselves.

The Ministry for the Martial Chastisement of the Unrighteous Foes of the Dragon Throne manages the Empire's vast armed forces, and ensures the protection of the Empire from its many foes without.
