[[quirks]]

Quirks

During character creation, you may choose one free positive (+) quirk. You may then take up to three additional positive quirks, each of which must be balanced out by a negative quirk (-).

Personal Quirks

Legendary Item (+)

You have somehow acquired an item of great power, one about which stories are written.

More powerful items require this quirk to be taken multiple times.

Level 1

You have a minor item of power, suited to a single task which it performs admirably. For example, the legendary Sword of Meng, which could cut through bronze in a single swing, a magical compass that lets you navigate in the East, or a ring of protection from blizzards.

Level 2

You have a moderate item of power, with a broad range of uses. For example, the legendary Sword of Zhou, which could cut through any metal in a single swing or the feathered cloak of Guest of the Rocks, with which she flew over length and breadth of the Empire.

Secret Technique (+)

Either through dedicated study, a wise teacher, or through mere chance, you have mastered a secret technique of the universe. You can do something that would be otherwise impossible

More powerful techniques require this quirk to be taken multiple times.

Level 1

You have learnt a minor secret of the universe, such as how to light a fire with your fingers, the secret word that unmakes knots, or sharpen your teeth into poisonous fangs.

Level 2

You have learnt a moderate secret of the universe, such as how to project flames from your palms, the secret word that unlocks doors, or how to turn yourself into a snake.

Sickness (-)

You have a rare disease that physicians seem unable to cure. Your symptoms will make certain things more difficult. Examples include physical weakness, episodes of confusion and being unable to concentrate or extremely bad allergies.

Vice (-)

Disgraced (-)

Either through dint of birth or shameful action, you have disgraced yourself in the eyes of the Empire. You suffer diminished status and disrespect and your opinion carries reduced weight in court and abroad. This is incompatible with Exalted.

Great Authority (+)

Your position is impressive even for a member of the Chrysanthemum Order. Perhaps you command a vast army, serve as one of the Ten Attendants or personally rule over huge tracts of land.
