There are many rumours about Zhong Yi. One of the most feared men in the Empire, he rules over the Fei-Dú Gold Mine in Wu Province with an iron fist. Fei-Dú is as much a fortress as a mine; few dare approach its black walls and fewer still ever leave. Zhong Yi himself is rarely seen but just his name is enough to strike terror into the hearts of his enemies. His name is whispered as a curse and parents warn their children that he’ll snatch them up if they don’t behave. There is some truth to that tale – he is known to have kidnapped the child of one of his greatest rivals and raised her as his own daughter.
However, because of his unrepentant misdeeds, Zhong Yi has been disgraced in the eyes of the Empire. He clings to his position only because of the fear he inspires in the peasantry.
Resigned.
